I think the theme of this book is that the person who live with people can changed. Kien is the character who changed in this story. First he was mean to the villagers but he started to change.
I think he changed because he stayed with the villagers everyday and he knew that if he respect someone that someone will respect him, too. when he rescued Big Tam he knew that he can help people and rescue someone.

i agree with you kien was so bad at villagers and wasn't supportable but as little and little he changed and cared about them as going through
